Attention rising 10th and 11th grade musicians! Are you ready to take your skills to the next level and join an elite ensemble of talented musicians? Then apply now for our exclusive audition-only Honor Band at Sea, featuring world-renowned conductor and composer Dr. Jack Stamp.


This unique program is reserved for the most dedicated and talented young musicians who are ready to challenge themselves and take their musical Talents to new heights. Under the guidance of Dr. Stamp, you'll have the opportunity to refine your skills and develop your musical talents to their fullest potential.

About Dr. Jack Stamp

Jack Stamp is Director of Band Studies Emeritus at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was awarded the title of "University Professor" for the 2008-2009 academic year at IUP. This is the highest award the university gives to a professor. He is currently International Composer in Association to the Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band and is an Honorary Patron of the Eynsford Concert Band (Kent, England). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Indiana University of PA, a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from East Carolina University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University where he studied with Eugene Corporon.  His primary composition teacher was Robert Washburn. Additional studies include work with Fisher Tull, Evan Copley, David Diamond, Joan Tower and Richard Danielpour.


His wind band music has been both commissioned performed by major university and military bands here and abroad.  Recent projects include commissions and premieres by the North Texas Wind Symphony, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Uptown Brass (brass quintet of the Minnesota Orchestra), and the Barcelona Clarinet Players.


His primary publishers include Neil Kjos Music, C. Alan Publications, Knightwind Music and Murphy Music Press.

Audition Information

All students who wish to attend the 2024 Honor Band at Sea are required to create and upload a video audition for placement into one of the wind ensemble.

AUDITION PROTOCOL

  • Each student must video record an audition and submit for evaluation according to the procedures outlined below.
  • Auditions will be evaluated by licensed music educators.
  • Recordings are due no later than SATURDAY, JUNE 10th at 11:59PM.

REQUIRED MUSICAL EXCERPTS

The required audition materials/excerpts for all woodwind, brass and percussion instruments can be found below. Be sure to read all of the instructions on this website first. Download the PDF for your instrument to prepare for your audition.

AUDITION RECORDING AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION

  1. Use whatever video recording device you have at your disposal (video camera, phone, tablet, computer, etc.), but select a device that captures the highest quality audio.
  2. Try to use a USB or higher quality microphone if at all possible.
  3. When positioning the camera, be sure that you can be seen clearly in the video.
  4. Before recording, test the audio level and picture quality of both the device and microphone.
  5. The audition video recording is to be one continuous take, with no pauses or edits in any way.
  6. Begin the video with a short personal introduction. Tell us your first and last name, your grade level (e.g. 10th grade, 11th grade), full name of your high school, and your home town (e.g. “Philadelphia, PA,” “Baltimore, MD,” etc.)
  7. Following your personal introduction, proceed to the excerpts, performing all of them in the order in which they appear in the PDF document for your instrument. You may take some time between excerpts, but do not stop or pause the recording.

FINALIZING AND UPLOADING YOUR VIDEO

  1. View your completed video in its entirety to ensure that it includes all of the required components and your finest quality performance of the required excerpts.
  2. Your audition video will be uploaded at the end of the application form found at the top of this page.

AUDITION RESULTS AND QUESTIONS

All students who complete and submit an audition will be notified regardless of whether or not they have earned a spot in the band
